We became official homeowners (again)! Transitioning to Maryland from NYC has been relatively easy. Although we do miss being able to order any type of food from virtually anywhere, we certainly do not miss riding the subway during rush hour while being cramped in with a ton of people who all wish they were somewhere else! And even though we knew that NYC was just another step we needed to take in order to reach our ultimate goal, it was one of the best places we have lived!! We met great people! My coworkers were literally the realest people I have ever met! We have now transitioned and taken the next step in reaching our goals. We are in Maryland while my husband attends medical school. After careful consideration, we knew we wanted to make an investment and purchase a home. After selling our home in San Diego earlier in this summer, it made it easier (financially) to buy a piece of Maryland. We had a great realtor who was referred to us by USAA’s Homeowners Advantage program which upon closing, a credit incentive is issued to us for using their services. We used it when we bought our home in San Diego and we received $1,200 credit just for using the real estate agent they referred. After researching affordable areas with good school districts, we looked at potential increases in property value and recent comparable homes that had been sold in the area. This would help us determine if purchasing the house itself would be a logical investment. Luckily, my husband has a very keen eye for this sort of thing and we found the absolute perfect home!! We knew as soon as we walked into this house that it was The House! Although, the seller had multiple offers, they decided to accept our offer because we used a VA home loan instead of a traditional FHA loan. My guess is that the sellers are huge supporters of the military community which we never take for granted.
After signing the ratified sales contract, Navy Federal did their thing and put the gears into motion. We were able to close within 4 weeks just in time for my kiddos to start school on Tuesday! The home does need a little bit of updating but I am soooo excited to make it my own. I now have the luxury of being a stay-at-home mom so I’ll be able to use my spare time remodeling the bathrooms. Luckily, the kitchen is perfection! The sellers did not skimp out on remodeling the kitchen which comes equipped with soft-closing drawers, stainless steel appliances and a stainless steel farmhouse sink!
Overall, we are super excited to make this house our own and really hope this is a good investment.
Just a few pictures of our new home!!
